Charter of the hospitalized patient
General Principles :
I - The public hospital service
is accessible to all, particularly to the most deprived. It is adapted
to the handicapped.
II - The health care establishments guarantee
quality treatment, care and reception. They are attentive to the
relief of pain.
III - Information given to patients must be
accessible and straight-forward. The patient participates in the
choice of therapeutic care concerning him.

IV - A medical act takes place
only with the free and clear consent of the patient.
V - A specific consent form is established
especially for patients participating in a biomedical research,
for the donation and use of elements and parts of the human body
as well as acts for detection of illness.
VI - The hospitalized patient can, at any time,
leave the establishment apart from exceptions stated by law. The
patient must be informed of eventual risks that he may incur by
his decision.
VII - The hospitalized person is treated with
consideration. His beliefs are respected. His privacy must be preserved
as well as his tranquility.

VIII - Respect for private life is guaranteed
to all hospitalized patients as well as the confidentiality of personal,
medical and social information.
IX - The patient has access
to information in his medical file with the presence of a practitioner
of his own choice.
X - The hospitalized patient can voice out
his observations concerning the care and welcome received; he has
the right to demand compensation for the prejudices that he esteems
to have suffered.
