Charter of the hospitalized patient

General Principles :

I - The public hospital service is accessible to all, particularly to the most deprived. It is adapted to the handicapped.

II - The health care establishments guarantee quality treatment, care and reception. They are attentive to the relief of pain.

III - Information given to patients must be accessible and straight-forward. The patient participates in the choice of therapeutic care concerning him.

IV - A medical act takes place only with the free and clear consent of the patient.

V - A specific consent form is established especially for patients participating in a biomedical research, for the donation and use of elements and parts of the human body as well as acts for detection of illness.

VI - The hospitalized patient can, at any time, leave the establishment apart from exceptions stated by law. The patient must be informed of eventual risks that he may incur by his decision.

VII - The hospitalized person is treated with consideration. His beliefs are respected. His privacy must be preserved as well as his tranquility.

VIII - Respect for private life is guaranteed to all hospitalized patients as well as the confidentiality of personal, medical and social information.

IX - The patient has access to information in his medical file with the presence of a practitioner of his own choice.

X - The hospitalized patient can voice out his observations concerning the care and welcome received; he has the right to demand compensation for the prejudices that he esteems to have suffered.
