What is pre-habilitation?

Prehabilitation is a programme of preparation before surgery. It helps to limit post-operative complications and improve the speed of recovery by preparing patients ahead of major surgery. It is a precursor to Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS).

Main principles and objectives

Prehabilitation is a form of preparation currently designed for patients due to undergo major surgery. It is carried out in the weeks leading up to the operation, and is based on three main pillars:

2. Nutritional preparation
3. Psychological preparation
